I used to love Matrix saga, but?
Hi guys, so I’m not a Britney fan at all but I enjoy collecting animated music videos for some reason ( Korn Freak on a leash, Pearl Jam Do the evolution, Creed Bullets, etc) so I had Break the ice by Britney Spears, I liked the anim. But friends kept telling me it was a Ghost in the shell rip-off, so I decided to buy the movies to check. Now this may be old news (I’m not an "otaku", just a curious girl) but Ghost in the shell HEAVILY reminded me of Matrix. Thing is, Ghost in the shell came first. So I feel I’m losing my respect for the wachowski brothers? Am I the only one who thinks that Matrix is a complete and total Ghost in the shell rip-off??
Its inspired by.
But honestly the matrix owes more to late 80s Cyberpunk classics like Neuromancer/Mona lisa overdrive.
And the whole philosophy in the matrix is mash up of gnosticism and debates about free will with a good dose of ancestor simulation theory.
The Matrix is derivative yes but its all so excellentlyrealizedd visually. The Wachowski brothers were not so much trying to do something original as much as they were trying to capture the zeitgeist of the Information/Internet/Computer age that we now live and and really going to live in for most of the remainder of human existence and they did that 100%.
Ever heard of the book Dune? George lucas stole tons of material from that to make starwars but starwars is still great.
Most Highly successful franchises are heavily inspired by something else.
